Voluntary code fails?

05 February, 2010

A Wine & Spirit Trade Association survey showed over 30% compliance on five elements of the voluntary agreement on drinks labelling, with over half carrying four of the five elements contained in the code.

Information on the total number of units contained in a product appeared on 63% of drinks packaging and sensible drinking messages on 58%.

The survey examined 1,543 products sold by two major supermarkets.

Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
