Wolf Blass gives Rugby a try in 2010

Wolf Blass is spending £2 million in a rugby-themed campaign which will include TV, print, poster and online ads.

There will also be an on-pack offer giving consumers the chance to win “ultimate sporting prizes” including a trip to the Ashes in Australia and VIP tickets to Premiership football matches, the Ryder Cup and Royal Ascot.

The campaign coincides with the Six Nations tournament and supports the brand’s ongoing sponsorship of the RFU.

Neil Barker, UK commercial director at Foster’s EMEA, said: “Wolf Blass neck collar promotions are a guaranteed route to sales success.

“We ran one throughout the Ashes series last summer which delivered a strong sales performance with volumes typically up 35%. We are expecting an even greater sales uplift this year as the promotion runs throughout 2010.”

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
