Gallo ‘more focused’ despite sales fall

05 February, 2010

Gallo has reiterated its commitment to the UK market despite a dramatic drop in sales. Nielsen figures show the producer was down 24% on value sales in the off-trade in the year to December 26, while volumes were down 28%.

PR manager Mairead Quinn told OLN: “We restructured the business in 2009 and are all set for sustainable, profitable growth. We are more focused, not less, on the UK market.”?Quinn said the drop in sales was due to a cut in the number of SKUs after the restructuring. “There are a lot of promotions out there and this is also reflected in the figures,” she added.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
