Hancocks goes World Cup crazy

Hancocks has launched a patriotic range to help independents capitalise on the football World Cup this June.

The bespoke range includes Tattoo Gum (rrp 49p) – the top seller during the 2006 World Cup – a St George’s car nose (rrp £1) and garden gnomes clad in England kit (rrp £2.49).

“Pick-ups are likely to be low priced and impulsive in the main. Even if England get knocked out early, the patriotism will remain for the summer months and so these England-themed items will continue to sell well,” said Hancocks’ purchasing director Jonathan Summerley.

Reasons to be cheerful

I would like to think my outlook on things is generally optimistic. Perhaps that’s a natural consequence of working with something designed to give pleasure. But recently it has become increasingly difficult to ignore a creeping sense of negativity pervading the British wine trade.
