Lockspeiser moves into strategy role at Off-Piste

02 April, 2010

Bottle Green founder Jerry Lockspeiser has joined Off-Piste Wines as chairman.

In his new role Lockspeiser will guide the strategic development of its brands and sales.

Until this year Off-Piste had been the UK agent for Yellow Tail, but is no longer interested in third-party brands.

“We’re more likely to develop our own stuff,” said director Paul Letheren. “Often a brand owner will tell you what they think is right but it may not be in tune with what the consumer wants.”?Director Anthony Fairbank added: “Retailers want a bit more NPD to ensure their ranges are more exciting.

“Yellow Tail was fantastic for us but we didn’t set out to look after other people’s brands.”?Lockspeiser, who started Bottle Green in 1990 and sold it to DCC in 2004, said: “Off-Piste today reminds me of my previous business in the early years of its growth – with the added benefit of having two of the UK’s best wine business operators at the helm.”?Off-Piste’s brands include Frozé, Hope’s Garden and Belmont.
