Tesco adds Durello to its Dino range

16 April, 2010

Tesco is hoping to replicate the popularity of Prosecco with the addition of a new sparkling wine to its Dino range, made from 100% Durello grapes.

Dino Spumante from Cantina di Soave (rrp £9.99) is claimed to be the first Durello to be exported from the Lessini region of north east Italy.

“The position of Durello now is like Prosecco was 25 years ago,” said export director Luca Sabatini.

“If you come out of the local area, no one knows what Durello is, but the grapes have the best characteristics, especially in terms of acidity, to make quality sparkling wines.”?Dino Durello Spumante is the third wine in Tesco’s Dino range, joining a Sangiovese di Romagna and Pinot Grigio IGT.

The Dino brand was listed in April as one to watch in OLN’s Growth Brands Report.

One of the most fascinating stories in wine, fit to stand alongside the Judgement of Paris, is that of Rudy Kurniawan, a man who managed to fool friends, auction houses and experts into believing they were drinking some of the world’s most expensive wines.
