l Hancocks has launched three flavours of medicated sweets – Eucalyptus, Cherry and Extra Strong – under the Freegells brand. Price marked at 30p, this compares to Tunes at 53p and Halls at 70p, according to the cash and carry.

Haribo Tangfastics and Starmix will be available in seasonal gift tubes and 475g and 600g sharing drums this Christmas.

McVitie’s has reduced the saturated fat of its Digestives, Hob Nobs and Rich Tea by a further 50%. The packaging has also been changed to include the message Now Lowest Ever Saturated Fat Same Great Taste.

Mini Babybel Original will feature Christmas-themed Cellophane wrapping on six and 12?-packs this December. Designs include a Christmas tree, Santa Claus, a Christmas stocking and a reindeer.

Waitrose is stocking a new organic fruit juice from Booost Trading called Pip. It will be available at an introductory price of £1.99, down from £2.69, until January.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
