Hardys pins hopes on Pinot Grigio

Constellation Europe has added a Pinot Grigio to its Hardys VR range with the aim of tapping into the grape’s current popularity.

The wine is described as dry, medium-bodied with fresh citrus and poached white pear flavours.

Clare Griffiths, vice-president of marketing for Constellation Europe, said: “Hardys VR showcases uncomplicated wines that display true varietal character.

“The introduction of Pinot Grigio strengthens the range by delivering a variety that is growing in consumer popularity.”?The range comprises single varietal wines from the warm inland areas along south eastern Australia’s rivers.

Hardys is the second top-selling wine brand in the off-trade and has seen a 20% increase in sales, according to Nielsen (year to May 15, 2010).

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
