Sustainable status granted to Raimat

Codorníu’s Raimat winery now has official sustainable certification from the Catalonian government for all its vineyards.

The certification covers Raimat’s 2,245ha in the Costers del Segre DO.

Joan Esteve, Raimat’s head of viticulture, said: “Overall, the strategy behind Raimat certified sustainable viticulture is to spend more money on monitoring and less on the material inputs such as fertiliser and pesticides.

“Being a sustainable winemaker isn’t just great for the environment and local region but, most importantly, it makes for the best quality wines too.

“We are proud to be leading the way with our sustainable approach.”?

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
