British winery adds light wine range

Broadlands Wineries has expanded its offering with a new range of light British wines.

Three Mills Reserve comes in rosé, white and redles, all with an rrp of £3.99 and alcoholic strengths of 11% or 11.5%.

The wine is fermented in Norfolk from Spanish Airén grape must before natural flavours are added.

The range will be launched in selected regional retailers and online before being rolled out to supermarkets nationwide.

David Thornhill, sales and marketing director for Broadland Wineries, said: “This mid-market range builds on the success of the Three Mills brand and reflects the growing interest in light British wines among consumers.

“We’re pleased to be able to add these elegant, easy-to-drink wines to our product portfolio.

“We’re confident they’ll prove popular with customers.”

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
