Romania returns to Oddbins’ shelves

03 September, 2010

Oddbins has listed a Romanian wine for the first time in 10 years.

The chain will sell Cramele Recas’ Frunza Pinot Grigio, priced £5.99, in all its shops and online at oddbins.com from this month.

The wine comes from the Banat region in western Romania, and Romanian producers have hailed the listing as a signal that the country’s once popular wines are starting to see a revival.

Cramele Recas managing director Philip Cox said: “We’ve invested heavily in new vineyard plantings and technology over the past 10 years and the quality is now showing through.

“The new listing in Oddbins is a major breakthrough as far as distribution in the UK is concerned, and we hope this news will have a positive impact on other Romanian producers looking to break into this market.”?Oddbins buyer Ana Sapungiu said: “There has been a vast improvement in the quality of Romanian wines in the past decade and the Frunza Pinot Grigio represents an excellent price-quality ratio.”
