Retailer dreams up dinner competition

Online retailer Find Wine is running a competition for a consumer to win a dinner party in their own home for themselves and nine guests.

To enter, consumers are being asked to nominate their dream dinner party menu with the winning entry being chosen by an independent panel of foodies.

Writer and broadcaster Joe Wadsack will play the part of Find Wine’s “ultimate dinner guest”, who will turn up with the ingredients for the chosen menu and specially matched wines – he’ll also cook the meal and provide “endless banter, witty commentary and tall tales”.

Find Wine founder Mike Howes said: “Our philosophy is to make wine fun and approachable. The aim of the competition is to engage the consumer in a memorable and slightly off-beat manner.”

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
