Bulmers app to help locate brand

Heineken UK has launched a phone app for its Bulmers cider brand.

The application is designed to direct consumers to the nearest outlet stocking the brand’s limited edition Summer Blend, using the phone’s GPS.

The launch of the app – which works on iPhones and Androids – coincides with a new Bulmers website and a Facebook fan page, which features a version of the stockist finder.

Brand manager Douglas Cook said: “As with any limited edition product, it is only available in selected outlets and our consumers are asking us where they can go to find it.

“It’s fantastic to be able to use technology like this to help consumers and especially great for that spontaneous purchase on the way home from work when the sun is shining.”

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
