A touch of spice for Chairmanís rum

03 September, 2010

Emporia Brands has launched a spiced version of its Chairmanís Reserve rum following a test in the on-trade in major cities.

Chairmanís Reserve Spiced is infused with ingredients including cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, vanilla, coconut, allspice, lemon and orange, plus a kind of bark called richeria grandis.

The 40% abv rum is being listed by online retailer the Drink Shop, which is selling it for £18.95, and specialist spirits shop Gerryís, with a bottle price of £20.65.

Emporia chairman James Rackham said: ďWe have been working for more than a year on creating the right blend of spices. The natural sweetness works subtly with ginger beer and cranberry juice.Ē

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle Ė which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
