Multiples run beer festival offers

Budgens and Londis are running a series of ale and lager discounts until Sep-tember 15 as part of a three-week beer festival.

The promotions include Spitfire, Pedigree and Master Brew on offer at £1 a bottle, and 18 premium bottled ales on three-for-two deals.

There are also discounts on lagers, including Carling, Foster’s and Carlsberg. Stella Artois is on offer at £9 for 15x28.4cl bottles, down from £10.76.

Willie Hamilton, Budgens and Londis trading director, said: “The deals have been specifically created to bring in new customers, while satisfying existing ones.

“It also gives a great platform to promote the quality of the range and the strength of our value offer to Budgens and Londis customers.”?The beer festival has been based on the successful cider festival which ran earlier this year.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
