Midlands favourite to launch in off-trade

13 September, 2010

A Midlands brewery is set to offer one of its most popular beers in bottles for the first time.

Malvern Hills Brewery has won a string of awards for its Black Pear bitter, a 4.4% abv ale which takes its name from the coat of arms given to Worcester by Elizabeth I.

Brewer Paul Hathaway said the beer was being bottled by Branded Drinks and would be supplied initially in pasteurised format, though the company has hopes of producing a bottle-conditioned version in due course.

The beer is expected to be available to the off-trade in October or November.

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
