New winter gin from Beefeater

13 September, 2010

Beefeater has developed a new Winter Edition gin, which will go on sale in the UK and selected international markets this year.

The limited-edition spirit, developed by master distiller Desmond Payne, includes additional botanicals such as cinnamon, nutmeg and pine shoots to create “a spiced, warming gin, suitable for the cooler months”, according to producer Pernod Ricard.

Brand director for gins Simon Burley said: “We are committed to driving the category forward by introducing innovative new products and different serving suggestions. The release of the new Beefeater Winter Edition lends itself to creating new gin cocktails at home, as well as being an ideal seasonal gift so we are confident it will be just as successful as the summer edition.”

Beefeater Winter Edition will be available to buy in the UK from Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Fortnum & Mason and Harrods. It has an abv of 40%.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
