Crush expands on Down to Earth

Crush Wines has launched two South African wines under the Down to Earth label in the UK.

They are produced by Stellenbosch- based Villiera, whose wines are already sold in the UK through Crush.

The Down to Earth range comprises a red Touriga Nacional/Shiraz blend and a white Sauvignon/Semillon. Both are listed by the Wine Society (rrp of £6.49).

Crush managing director Chris Ellis said: “Villiera’s production is pretty much totally organic and about natural techniques. There’s a lot of emphasis on canopy management, but also working hard at getting the best out of the soil and putting nutrients back in.”

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
