08 October, 2010

Cooden Cellars has opened a warehouse outlet in Hastings, which will also act as a distribution hub for the Eastbourne-based wine merchant.

The new store is called Cellar2glass and will sell to the public in minimum quantities of six bottles.

It also features a tasting room, a relaxation area for customers and a reference library of wine books and magazines.

Cooden Cellars was established in 1997 by business partners Colin Barnes and Ian Jarman.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
