AA Badenhorst Family Wines Wine NV?Supplier: Swig (price TBC)It doesn’t usually bode well when you taste a wine that’s just called “wine”, but this Chardonnay/Chenin/Viognier blend, which is aged in a former sherry solera, is something quite different.

Badenhorst took the decision not to fortify the wine, so at 13.5% abv it feels lighter on the palate than sherry, but has all the aromas of bruised green apple, nuts and sea air that you’d hope for, along with a salty, peanutty, appley palate, and a long and almondy finish. CB?Elgin Vintners Chardonnay 2009?Supplier: Raisin Social (rrp £11.99)A smoky, savoury nose with notes of butter, vanilla, white apple, lemon and cream, which follow onto the flavour-packed palate with zesty acid. The finish is fresh and minerally. CB??Running Duck Shiraz 2010?Supplier: Ehrmanns (rrp £7.99)Sweet perfumed blackcurrant, blackberry, strawberry and raspberry on the nose. Light-bodied, aromatic and fruity on the palate with a hint of soft tannins and notes of spice and cream, and a fresh, aromatic finish. CB
