Options’ on the tobacco display ban

10 December, 2010

The government has said it is “considering options” on the future of the display ban on tobacco.

The ban, included in legislation brought by the Labour government, is due to come into force for bigger shops in October 2011, and smaller shops, two years later.

In its white paper on health, the government said it was “considering options for the display of tobacco in shops, recognising the need to take action to reduce tobacco consumption and burdens on businesses”.

The white paper also confirmed that the government is considering introducing plain packaging for tobacco products, as previously reported in OLN.
