Blavod to launch Cockspur substitute
Blavod Wines & Spirits is planning to launch its own rum in the new year.
The brand will replace Cockspur, the UK agency which it lost to Whyte & Mackay in September.
Blavod said in a trading statement on the six months to September 30 that Cockspur volumes and margins “fell away sharply” after the switch was announced, resulting in “a much-reduced contribution, even after compensation” was received.
The trading statement continued: “Longer-term we will build upon our experience in the dynamic rum segment, in which we more than doubled Cockspur sales over three years, by introducing our own brand of rum in the new year, and we plan to add a small number of additional brands to the portfolio”.
The listed company made a loss of £12,000 for the period, against a profit of £45,0000 the previous year.
