Hula Hoops in TV talent tie-in

Hula Hoops is linking up with ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent for an on-pack promotion, as part of a package of activity by United Biscuits on its bagged snacks in the new year.

The push includes new flavours for Phileas Fogg, McCoy’s and KP nuts.

Every Hula Hoops consumer will be able to claim a free talent lesson by entering an on-pack code on to the Hula Hoops website.

There will also be a competition with a first prize of a £10,000 “ticket to stardom”. To enter, consumers will have to make their own talent video, with the best one, as voted for by visitors to the site, winning the prize.

All votes will be entered into a prize draw to see a Britain’s Got Talent live show.

Phileas Fogg will have new flavours in 140g sharing bags – Spicy Beef & Mexican Chilli tortillas and Tandoori Chicken With Indian Spice crisps. Both will have an rrp of £1.98.

There will also be redesigned packaging across the Phileas Fogg range.

McCoy’s will have updated packaging from February, with a 30% saturated fat reduction in the range’s crisps and a Chargrilled Chicken flavour joining the line-up.

The brand will also be launching a six-pack of Thai Sweet Chicken, Mexican Chilli and Sizzling King Prawn flavours, and a multipack of meaty flavours.

UBUK will be launching Sweet Chilli and Honey Roast flavours of jumbo cashew nuts in January, in 90g bags with an rrp of £2.09.

George Johnston, marketing director for bagged snacks at UBUK, said: “Sales of bagged snacks have remained strong over the past year in a market that’s now worth £2.4 billion and showing healthy growth of 6%.”?He added: “UB’s activity for the next year will help to drive category growth throughout 2011 and generate extra sales for retailers.”?
