Lobby to support alcohol campaign?

10 December, 2010

A group campaigning for “freedom in everyday life” says it will take a bigger interest in alcohol issues.

The libertarian Manifesto Club – which is best known for its lobbying over the vetting database – has already campaigned on what it sees as the over-zealous confiscation of alcohol from people drinking in public and intrusive ID schemes.

“We’re at an early stage with the alcohol campaigns,” said convenor Josie Appleton, who has appeared at drinks industry conferences this year.

“Our aim is to affect public debate and awareness, to create a new public discussion on alcohol and to lobby on the part of public discontent on the issue. My aim would be for the question of freedom and civil liberties to be considered by policy- makers and for them not to think they can do anything they like around alcohol.”
