Honours for drinks industry stalwarts

Three drinks industry figures have been recognised in the New Yearís Honours list.

Richard Everard, chairman of Leicesterís Everardís Brewery, receives the OBE for services to the community. He is involved with 10 local charities including the Everard Foundation.

Brenda Hackett, marketing director of mead producer Lindisfarne, receives an MBE for services to the drinks industry.

David Long, former director of brewing at the British Beer & Pub Association, also receives an MBE for services to the hospitality industry.

Lifting the spirits

I were to sum up alcohol sales over Christmas 2017 in one word, it would be “gin”. At Nielsen, we define the Christmas period as the 12 weeks to December 30 and in that time gin sales were £199.4 million, which means they increased by £55.4 million compared with Christmas 2016.
