Sparkler joins Nottage Hill stable

Constellation Wine has launched a new sparkling wine under the Nottage Hill banner.

Nottage Hill Sparkling Pinot Noir/Chardonnay NV has been made by Hardys winemaker Paul Lapsley, using Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes from south eastern Australia.

The company said the sparkler benefited from being bottle-fermented, providing the wine with “complexity and character”.

The brand will receive marketing support in the form of Hardys’ sponsorship of Channel 4’s Come Dine With Me, backed by in-store promotions, digital activity and consumer sampling.

Meanwhile, Constellation’s Californian winemakers are predicting outstanding vintages for the company’s wines, which include Robert Mondavi and Ravenswood.

A yield recorded as 12% down on 2009 by the California Department of Food & Agriculture has resulted in forecasts of more restrained, elegant styles of wine.

Erik Olsen, chief winemaker for Constellation Wines US, said: “The 2010 vintage produced wines that show outstanding colour, acidity and varietal flavours. The cool growing season resulted in slower ripening of the crop, increased time on the vine, and an increase in colour and flavour development in the fruit.”
