07 January, 2011

Nine medals and 15 Quality Awards were handed out in this year’s Pre-Mixed Drinks Challenge.

Now in its second year, the competition was organised by OLN’s sister publication, Drinks International, and attracted 50 ready-to-drink entries from around the world.

Two gold medals were awarded to Funkin, for its Margarita and Piña Colada fruit purées, and two gold medals to Manchester Drinks Company, for its Rum/Cola and Vodka/Diet Cola.

Silver medals were also awarded to Manchester Drinks Company for its Gin/Tonic and Gin/Diet Tonic and to Funkin for its Strawberry Daiquiri, while Asda picked up a silver gong for its Cosmopolitan Bar2dr, produced exclusively by Toorank.

The judging panel comprised Sainsbury’s category buyer Vanessa Pearson; Andrew Gale, category technical manager for BWS at Tesco; Alex Turner, head of product training and mixology at Bacardi Brown-Forman Brands; Neil Garner, of Barwizard; and OLN features editor Nicola Collenette.

Funkin’s chief executive Andrew King said: “We launched the Funkin Margarita and Funkin Strawberry Daiquiri in response to the growing consumer demand for cocktails and are delighted to receive these accolades, a reflection of the importance we place on quality.”?For a full list of the Pre-Mixed Drinks Challenge winners, see
