Eastenders stock levels running low

21 January, 2011

Eastenders’ depots are soldiering on but with “very low” levels of stock, according to a staff member at its Leyton, east London, branch who spoke to OLN this week.

All six of the company’s depots were shut down in December raids by HM Revenue & Customs officers, and reopened in the week before Christmas.

The staff member told OLN the company had received no information about hearings related to the raids and added: “We’re getting no new stock in; we’re very low on stock.” It’s understood that the company’s owners and directors have still not been allowed to re-enter the premises.

Eastenders has depots in Barking in Essex, Birmingham, Coventry, Croydon, Leyton and Slough.

They were among 12 business premises and 17 homes raided by officers investigating a suspected £50 million excise duty and VAT fraud ring.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
