Arran unveils first peated single malt
Published:  21 January, 2011

Isle of Arran Distillers is launching its first peated single malt, under the name Machrie Moor.

The whisky will be released on allocation and is expected to sell for about £39.99 in the UK.

It is named after a peat moor on the west coast of Arran and is bottled at 46% abv.

“I wanted to create a whisky where the character and taste of Arran remained that our followers love, but add something different with a peat flourish,” said master distiller James MacTaggart.

Only 9,000 bottles will be available for the first edition of what will become an annual limited release.

Agreeing to disagree

Disagreeing about wine is a fact of wine-trade life, like drugs in sport or corruption in politics. Because taste is entirely subjective, debates about our personal preferences are as inevitable as they are interminable. Indeed, these long-winded, wine-fuelled arguments are precisely what make our jobs so much fun.
