Off-trade boss appointed by Butcombe

Bristol’s Butcombe Brewery has appointed its first ever off-trade sales director.

Martin Holland has been assigned to develop Butcombe’s national accounts as well as oversee its wholesale and independent business.

He has previously worked with national brands such as Golden Wonder, Panda Pops, Badger ales and Brecon mineral water.

Managing director Guy Newell said: “His excellent knowledge of the multiple retail, convenience and wholesale sectors will be a great asset to the team.”

Butcombe began bottling its flagship Butcombe Bitter at the end of 2010 and it has been sold nationally through Morrisons since January.

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
