Get romantic with Naked Wines

11 February, 2011

Naked Wines is challenging its customers to “get slushy” for Valentine’s Day.

The online retailer is encouraging visitors to its site to declare undying love for their significant other in a public group on the web page.

Anyone who does so is in with a chance of winning a trip to Venice.

The competition will be judged by Prosecco winemaker Alessandro Botter.

He said: “Hello my friends. I look forward to reading all your messages and picking the winners. Pour your heart into your entry and declare your deep love to your sweetheart.”

The competition closes at midnight on February 14 and a winner will be picked on February 15.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
