Stores urged to put Chile in spotlight

Wines of Chile will be running its Independent Wine Merchant Awards again this September.?To compete, retailers must put Chile in the spotlight throughout September, with in-store displays, tastings, wine dinners and promotions.?The event will coincide with Chile’s national day, September 18.?The competition is open to all independent wine merchants in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.?The top four retailers will win an all-expenses-paid buying trip to Chile in January 2012, and will receive £500 towards the cost of the promotion. Ten runners-up will receive £500 each.?Last year’s seven winners – some of whom are pictured above in Chile – recently returned from their trip to the country.?For more details and an entry pack including promotional materials such as posters and neck collars, email info@winesofchile.org.uk before July 21.

The shops that stand out from the madding crowd

The judges met last week to sort out the winners in the independent categories of our 2018 Drinks Retailing Awards. The results are top secret until the awards dinner on February 6 but it’s giving nothing away to report that the overall standard of those that will be revealed in the shortlist of finalists in the January issue of DRN is higher than it’s ever been.
