l German pilsner Veltins has won a listing for its 50cl bottle in all 26 of Booths’ stores from March. The 4.8% abv brand is already available nationally in Oddbins, and its UK agent is Vertical Drinks.??l Chef Marco Pierre White has launched a beer with JW Lees. The Governor will be available in bottle and cask in the spring. The equipment cost around £125,000 and is testament to its growth plans, according to the company, which is being bought by Molson Coors.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
