Gallo brings chilled red to UK

Californian wine producer Gallo is launching a red wine that has been specially created to be drunk chilled.?Summer Red will be sold under the Gallo Family Vineyards label and claims to be the first wine of its kind in the

UK market.?The launch will be backed by a summer advertising campaign, plus events, sampling and “interactive brand experiences”.?Marketing director Amy Englehardt said: “Summer Red is a benchmark innovation and will be launched in June.”?Asda, Morrisons, Costcutter, Booker and Bargain Booze are all taking the wine, which has an abv of 10.5%.?The wine has flavours of “cherries and pomegranate”, according to Gallo, which suggests salads, seafood and risotto as food matches.?Gallo will also be backing its Turning Leaf brand with regional sampling and other events to support a link with chef Esther Röling this year.?Barefoot will continue its partnership with Surfers Against Sewage, including

a number of beach clean-up and restoration events.?Meanwhile, Redwood Creek is being supported by advertising and a sponsorship deal with the Rat Race outdoor sports organisation.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot.
