New faces for Cordorníu Group

Two new appointments have been announced at Spanish winemakers the Cordorníu Group.

Arthur O'Connor fills a newly-created position as head of winemaking, responsible for innovation, development and research across the group. O'Connor, who has experience working in wineries in California and Australia, said: "I'm passionate about making wines which express their regionality and have a generosity of flavour."

Jordi Ratera steps into the role of technical director, succeeding Juan José de Castro, who held the position for 37 years before retir ing last summer. Ratera, who has worked for the group for 20 years, will be responsible for the full range of Codorníu's cavas.

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
