Benevolent events coming up

The Benevolent Ball, on March 15 at London's Dorchester , will offer the drinks industry an evening of fun and networking. The ticket price includes dinner, a silent auction, a team golf game and dancing to blues singer Big Man. Tickets cost 135 each before Jan 31, 155 after. The format of the Benevolent Dinner, to be held on May 17 at Claridge's, has changed. This year, the event is aimed at senior drinks trade figures and guests from outside the sector. Havana good time

Diageo is rolling out the next edition of its Piece of Havana club nights on Feb 24 at Glasgow's Old Fruit Market, which will be transformed into a Havana street scene. The event will feature Cuba n hip hop band Triangular Oscuro and DJ Armando, and guests will be treated to complimentary cocktails and hand-rolled cigars. Pendle's beer festival is back for its third year from Feb 1-3 at Colne Municipal Hall, East Lancashire. There will be more than 30 Celtic beers on taste, with representative brews from all Celtic nations . Boru in limelight

Castle Brands has listings in 300 Sainsbury's for its Boru Vodka, retailing at 14.49 for a 1-litre bottle. "This partnership with Sainsbury's is largely attributed to our advertising campaign in 2006 when we supported Twenty20 cricket and other sporting events," said commercial director Iain Stewart.

Give a Monkey's on Valentine's

Online spirits specialist Drinkon has teamed up with Monkey Shoulder for a Valentine's Day promotion. The retailer is offering a voucher for two free Monkey Shoulder cocktails in one of 15 style bars around the country with every purchase of Monkey Shoulder Triple Malt.

New Palandri boss

Palandri Wine has appointed a new general manager for the UK and Europe. David Hodgson takes over from Andrew Blythe, who will return to Australia in March to work as global sales and marketing manager. Hodgson previously worked as sales and marketing manager in the UK and Europe for Quatrovin and as brands

director for Rosemount Estate Wines.

Whisky experience

The Edrington Group has invested 50,000 in a cookery and whisky school at the Glenturret distillery. The Famous Grouse Experience will let visitors see behind the scenes and view areas of the distillery normally closed to the public. Award-winning chef Steven Craik will run one-day cookery classes from the end of January. The Whisky School and Malt Experience should open at the end of March.

The campaign name There’s A Beer For That may have got cynics like me trying to think of things there wasn’t a beer for, but broadly speaking it was a force for good.
