Guibert joins Waitrose team

Waitrose has appointed Christelle Guibert promotions and information manager for beers, wines and spirits. Guibert has worked in the wine trade for 10 years, gaining experience in both the on and off-trade.

Wine buying manager Justin Howard-Sneyd said: "She will work with our buyers on developing a promotions strategy and building on the product information that we use to market our beers, wines and spirits, as well as organising events and developing BWS copy for Waitrose publications."

McGuigan focuses on Tempus

Lisa McGuigan, of McGuigan Simeon Wines, has left her position as the firm's global marketing director to manage Australian wine brand Tempus Two. McGuigan, who founded the brand in 1997, has stepped down to concentrate on growing sales of Tempus Two, which has become an important brand in the company's portfolio.

WSTA update

The Wine & Spirit Trade Association is holding a No ID, No Sale seminar for anyone selling age-restricted products. Hosted by WSTA chief executive Jeremy Beadles, the event will take place on Feb 13 in Leeds. The programme includes an update on the Retail of Alcohol Standards Group and information on the latest technology designed to help retailers prevent illegal sales. It is also asking retailers for feedback on how they're coping with the new duty stamp regime.

Label omissions

First Drinks Brands has warned that labels on a small number of 70cl bottles of Warninks advocaat are missing details of the bottle size and the alcohol content. For more information call First Drinks Customer Service on 023 8031 6199.

Training group appointments

CPL, which provides training to the licensed retail sector, has appointed two new non-executive directors. John Taylor, former European supply chain director at Unilever, will join former Bristol & West international director and chief executive Chris Robinson. Taylor will examine CPL's market position while Robinson's key role will be to expand CPL's partnerships with corporate clients.

Stadium rocks

Carlsberg 's latest on-pack promotion ties in with the England football team and the opening of the new Wembley Stadium. A pair of Wembley season tickets are up for grabs on promotional packs of Carlsberg and Carlsberg Export on sale in branches of Asda from the middle of February, giving two people the chance to attend all sporting and music events at the stadium from August 2007 to July 2008.

The shops that stand out from the madding crowd

The judges met last week to sort out the winners in the independent categories of our 2018 Drinks Retailing Awards. The results are top secret until the awards dinner on February 6 but it’s giving nothing away to report that the overall standard of those that will be revealed in the shortlist of finalists in the January issue of DRN is higher than it’s ever been.
