Race is on to enter charity triathlon

The Benevolent' is looking for sporty types for its first drinks industry triathalon on Sept 9.

The event takes in a 750m lake swim, 20km road cycle and 5km run at Keynes Country Park near Cirencester, Gloucestershire. It is open to individuals and to relay teams of three.

Entrants will need to give a minimum donation, which includes entry fees. Forty team places have been reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Benevolent hopes to raise £20,000 towards its work supporting former members of the drinks industry in need.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
