Merchant falls for Stelvin

Wine merchant Berry Bros & Rudd has launched its house wines in screwcap and called for greater acceptance of the closure from top producers.

Berry Bros will sell its House Red and House White - both from the Aude in Languedoc - in a Stelvin closure. Wine director Alun Griffiths said he is very unhappy with the incidence of cork taint in top wines and would like to see more top producers consider Stelvin.

"Our house wine suppliers are happy to screwcap, but when we talk to classified growth suppliers and owners they say it would be a major problem.

"There are plenty of wines between the top level and the bottom level that would be perfectly OK in screwcap," Griffiths said.
