Burridges of Arlington St has added two new bodegas to its list. The wine shipper is now offering Garnacha-based wines from Bodegas Santo Cristo in Campo de Borja and white wines from Rincon de Pedrazza in Rueda.

Five independent wine merchants will tak e part in an Australia and New Zealand wine festival in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, on May 12 - Noel Young Wines, Amps Fine Wines, Lay & Wheeler, Liberty Wines and Berry Bros. The festival includes two tutored wine tastings, a post-festival celebration supper and a fine wine dinner. Reservations: 01480 451591.

Lay & Wheeler has released its fine wine list for spring 2007. Wines from Burgundy, Bordeaux, the Rhône Valley, Champagne and Italy all feature on the list and customers also have a second chance to buy the 2005s en primeur.

Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
