Cricket deal puts Marston's on screen

Marston's is to sponsor Sky Sports' live coverage of the Cricket World Cup, which is taking place in the Caribbean.

The deal includes sponsorship credits and break bumpers on air, branding on the World Cup sections of skysports.com, and logos on Sky Sports' World Cup promotions.

Marston's marketing director Peter Jackson said: "Sponsoring the Sky World Cup coverage reflects our aim to support cricket and its fans wherever and whenever possible. This is a logical extension of our commitments, which include the official beer of the England cricket team and sponsorship of eight county clubs and four Test match grounds."

The brand has also signed a three-year deal to become the supplier of beer to English Test Match Grounds, which gives it rights to perimeter branding, boards behind the wicket and poster sites and international cricket fixtures.

Sky sponsorship head David Shore said: "The ICC World Cup is cricket's biggest event and I'm delighted that Marston's shares with us the excitement and passion of what should be a fantastic seven weeks of cricket."

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle ľ which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
