New staff for independent

Independent wine merchant Stone, Vine & Sun has appointed two new members of staff.

David Penny, who has a dual sales and purchasing role , previously worked for Handford Wines . Stone, Vine & Sun's managing director Simon Taylor said: "David was responsible for buying all non-French wines at Handford - highly complementary to our French strength."

Roger Higgs also joins the team as non-executive director. Higgs becomes a shareholder in the Winchester-based company and takes on a consultancy role in purchasing.

The mail-order retailer, which also has a shop in Winchester, specialises in wine from the Languedoc-Roussillon, Loire, Burgundy, South Africa and South America.

Lifting the spirits

I were to sum up alcohol sales over Christmas 2017 in one word, it would be “gin”.
