Musical plans for Scottish vodka push

Diageo is hosting six music events in Scotland over the next two months to promote its top-selling brand .

Smirnoff & the Electric Cabaret is a £1 million marketing campaign that aims to increase sales of the vodka in Scotland.

Brit nominees the Guillemots and The Go! Team are among guests performing live at venues in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Scottish bands Franz Ferdinand and Belle and Sebastian will perform as special guest DJ s.

Rob Ward, Smirnoff brand manager, Diageo GB, said: " This large scale Scottish-exclusive investment will continue to boost consumer affiliation with the brand which in turn will support retailers to drive sales of Smirnoff in both the on and off-trade."

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
