Minis to drive growth in biscuits

United Biscuits UK is boosting the number of "eat-now" snacks available to consumers by changing the format of its McVitie's Minis range.

From this month McVitie's Jaffa Cakes Grab and Go, Mini Cookies, Mini Chocolate Digestives, Mini Chocolate Hob Nobs, Mini Hob Nobs and Mini Blackcurrant Cookies will be available in a 40g pack .

Mark Sugden, customer marketing director at UBUK, said: "Nearly 50 per cent of shopper missions are eat-now, but only 15 per cent of sales are eat-now. Making life easier continues to be a key consumer trend and the new McVitie's formats are more convenient for the retailer and the consumer."

The biscuits will be packaged in a 24x40g counter display unit .

UBUK predicts that the new activity will drive 30 per cent growth across biscuits.

Two new flavours have been added to the McVitie's Moments range. Milk Chocolate and Orange Viennese Melt and Plain Chocolate Espresso Shortcake will join the existing line up and are priced at 1.35.

Reasons to be cheerful

I would like to think my outlook on things is generally optimistic. Perhaps that’s a natural consequence of working with something designed to give pleasure. But recently it has become increasingly difficult to ignore a creeping sense of negativity pervading the British wine trade.
