Rolland sets up wine company

Consultant Michel Rolland has launched his own wine company, The Rolland Collection, and will no longer be selling his wines through the traditional négoçiant system.

David Lesage, formerly of wine merchants CVBG - and now married to Rolland's daughter Stephanie - will be managing director of the new company, responsible for the sales and distribution of 11 references from five properties in Bordeaux, two in Argentina, two in South Africa, and one in Spain. All are either owned wholly by Dany and Michel Rolland, or as a joint venture with one other family.

"We are not ruling out distributing other properties in the future that Rolland consults for," said Lesage. "We felt that the French merchants are very good at selling French wine, but not wine from elsewhere."
