Glengoyne offers DIY whisky casks

20 April, 2007

Glengoyne Distillery is offering whisky lovers the opportunity to buy their own casks of Scotch whisky.

Visitors will also get the chance to make decisions on key factors affecting the qualities of the malts, such as wood type and length of maturation.

The casks will be filled twice a year, once in spring and again in autumn. The first filling will take place on April 25.

Glengoyne's inaugural cask champion, Valerie Marsh, will oversee the cask offer.

The distillery is also launching its 10 Year Old and 17 Year Old Glengoyne Single Malt with revamped packaging.

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
