Stratford's and Yellow Tail part

09 March, 2007

Distribution of Yellow Tail wine in the UK has switched from Stratford's Wine Agencies to newly-formed Off Piste Wines.

New World specialist Stratford's would not reveal the reasons behind the move for the archetypal Australian brand.

But marketing manager Louise Hill said: "Yellow Tail and Stratfords have decided to move in different directions. At the moment we're making the final arrangements."

Stratford's confirmed that Bath-based Off Piste Wines has secured the distribution rights to Yellow Tail and an official handover date is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Off Piste Wines was founded by ex- Western Wine employees Paul Letheren and Anthony Fairbank in February. The duo will focus on building a portfolio of strong off-trade wine brands.

Yellow Tail was the pioneering Australian brand in the US market, an advantage it could not claim in the UK.

The Casella family-owned Yellow Tail vineyard is in Australia's Riverina region .

Reasons to be cheerful

I would like to think my outlook on things is generally optimistic. Perhaps that’s a natural consequence of working with something designed to give pleasure. But recently it has become increasingly difficult to ignore a creeping sense of negativity pervading the British wine trade.
