Four leading distilleries have united to launch the first Highland Whisky Festival on June 2-3. The distilleries of Balblair, Dalmore, Glenmorangie and Glen Ord will celebrate the national dram with a series of master classes, guided tours, food sampling and cooper's displays.

Cockspur Rum has appointed Pauline Clarke in the newly-created role of UK brand manager. Clarke has been responsible for developing the brand's cricket sponsorship programmes over the past three years of working for the company.

VK Vodka Kick has extended its motorsport link-up with sponsorship of the Bournemouth Sunseeker Rallye. VK promo girls were at the event to cheer on Global Brands managing director Steve Perez as he cruised into second place.

Sainsbury's has become the first supermarket to stock a 100 per cent Agave Tequila. Casco Viejo 100 per cent Agave Reposado (rrp 15.99) and Don Agustin Reposado (rrp 19.99) have secured listings in Sainsbury's stores nationwide.

Lifting the spirits

I were to sum up alcohol sales over Christmas 2017 in one word, it would be “gin”. At Nielsen, we define the Christmas period as the 12 weeks to December 30 and in that time gin sales were £199.4 million, which means they increased by £55.4 million compared with Christmas 2016.
