has responded to a big increase in teenage drinking by recommending that children under the age of 15 are not allowed to consume alcohol, even at home under parental supervision. But trade figures have described the proposals as unworkable - and told OLN about their own early drinking experiences, which they say shaped their own mature attitudes to alcohol. Richard Hemming MW: beware inverse snobbery

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle ľ which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
