Production of 2006 vintage Alsace wines is 1.1 million hl - 8 per cent down on the five-year average for the AOCs and Crémant d'Alsace. Only a few late harvest wines were made, due to bad weather into October, but these are "particularly successful, notably those made from Gewurztraminer, which ripens later and which therefore benefited from the fine October weather," according to Alsace Wines.

Stevens Garnier director Francis Stickney has resigned from the company, but he will continue to work for it as a consultant until the end of June. In a statement, the company said: "Everyone at Stevens Garnier wishes him all the best in the future and would like to thank him for his commitment and contribution during the past four years, since the merger of FSA Wine Shippers ."

Moreno Wines has appointed Alex Canneti as sales and marketing director. Canneti previously worked for PLB as business development manager for Italy and Spain and has also worked for International Wine Services managing France and Spain.
